Mat Classes
Each level of mat exercises helps the student apply the fundamental principles of the Pilates method of exercise. The exercises become more complicated and sophisticated - with varying speed and rhythm - as the practitioner progresses in their learning. Emphasis on breathing, flexibility of the spine, and building deep abdominal strength help define these classes.
INTRODUCTION TO MAT
Becoming fit and healthy by learning the 5 basic principles of Pilates: breath, concentration, oppositional energy, smooth fluid movements, and precise control from the core or powerhouse.
BEGINNING MAT
Building on the 5 basic principles, this level introduces all of the basic 10 exercises of classical Pilates. Focus is on strengthening the abdominals while stretching short tight muscles and toning loose ill defined muscles.
OPEN MAT - BEG/INT
This class is open to beginners and more experience pilates students. This class insures the beginner will be given the attention and the opportunity to learn the basic concepts of the pilates method while the non beginners are being challenged.
INTERMEDIATE MAT
The student needs to have the strength and ability to execute the basic 10 exercises. This class adds tempo and complexity to the workout. At this level hamstrings have loosened, the overall body has tone and strength, and the spine has mobility and one works from the core.
ADVANCED MAT
A serious workout for the healthy body, well educated in the Pilates method. The class requires great strength, flexibility and endurance. 36 advanced exercises are practiced with tempo and agility.
